JUNE 28-29 2008
ARRL Field Day
Location: TBD
Kingsland

Field Day Update:

The Field Day Committee continues to work on finalizing plans for this year's Field Day event.

Mike (KA7SQD) is working several PR items, including a proclamation draft to have the Kingsland Mayor or County Commission declare a "Camden County Ham Radio Day" on Field Day. Since the ARRL has decided to grant credit for any training given during the event, a decision still needs to be made on whether to develop handouts for the public or to order pre-made materials from the ARRL. Another PR method used in the past was a newspaper release, which we plan to use again.

The committee has put together an equipment list and has requested anyone participating to fill in the blanks with what they can bring. KD1Q has offered his generator/tower for use, like last year. Glenn (KD4ULB) has offered to set up the digital and satellite stations, and both Tom (K4TMN) and Bill (KD1Q) have offered to provide travel trailers. George (WA4GWB) is heading up the yagi repair team.

As for the location, George (WA4GWB) has received approval from the management of Lowe's to let us set up on the "grassy knoll" west of the garden area, with plenty of room and tall light posts. It was voted on at the April/May picnic and approved as a better location for PR/visibility.

The Kingsland Fire Dept will be contacted to request assistance with their ladder truck in putting up the antennas. One of the more exciting ideas discussed was the use of large weather baloons to raise some full wave verticals for different bands or to support a multi-band horizontal. More research needs to be done on availability and cost.

Stay tuned! More info to come!!
